One stand out in the new world of acapella is a group called Pentatonix. If you haven’t heard of them yet, now’s the time to familiarize yourself. They are taking the music and internet world by storm with their covers of classics like Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and a mesmerizing performance of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”.
When I first watched the video of “Hallelujah”, with it’s haunting and simple style, I was sure that they had hit their peak. There was no way the supergroup could put together something else that gave me the chills and brought so many emotions to the surface, but in this instance, I was quite wrong indeed.
Few people or groups have taken on Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and done it justice. Freddy Mercury was and continues to be an irreplaceable icon and the sounds of his version are imprinted on my soul. But, Pentatonix added their own unique vibe while staying true to the iconic piece of music. In only the first moments, chills ran down my spine and I was delighted throughout. It’s a truly outstanding performance is Pentatonix’s signature style.
